How does sedation dentistry work?
At Beach View Dental, Dr. Elenbaas prescribes you an oral sedative (in pill form) which you take before you come to your appointment. You will need to have someone drive you to and from your appointment since the sedative will make you relax and you shouldn't be operating a vehicle while under sedation. You will be sedated which will make you calm, but you will be awake and able to respond to commands. You will then get an injection of a local anesthetic to relieve your pain, because the sedative only calms you but it doesn't relieve pain. Since you will still be under the effects of the sedative you will need someone to drive you home from your appointment. Most patients don't feel any pain or discomfort whatsoever during their procedure or procedures and they feel really well after the sedative wears off.
Can any general dentist perform sedation dentistry?
