TMD Symptoms
Temporomandibular Disorder or TMD is a condition where your teeth and jaw are misaligned at your temporomandibular joint (TMJ), and it can force your muscles to overwork and cause discomfort and pain. TMD treatment is a branch of dentistry called neuromuscular dentistry.
There are many symptoms of TMD
Can include aches such as:
- Headaches
- Migraines
- Toothaches
They can also include pain such as:
- Facial pain
- Jaw pain
- Neck pain
- Shoulder pain
- Back pain
- Chewing, speaking, or yawning pain
- Pain that "travels" through your ear, head, and/or jaw
- Trigeminal neuralgia (lightning strikes of facial pain)
- Fibromyalgia (an arthritis-related condition that is characterized by generalized muscular pain and fatigue)
You may have problems with your teeth such as:
- Unexplained loose teeth
- Sensitive teeth
- Sore teeth
- Broken, chipped, cracked, or worn teeth
- Clenching or grinding of your teeth
- Enamel damage to your teeth
Other symptoms of TMD may include:
- Tinnitus (ringing in your ears)
- Hearing and/or ear problems, like congestion in your ears
- Dizziness
- Clicking or popping of your jaw
- Uncomfortable bite or meshing of your teeth
- Depression
- Difficulty opening or closing your jaw
- Difficulty chewing tough foods
- Limited jaw movement
- Locking jaw
- Numbness or tingling in your arms and/or fingers
- Sleep problems
- Vision problems
- Sensitivity to Light
